Khammam: A Khammam-based organisation, Vibrants of Kalam, has embarked on an impressive project to immortalise the legacy of aerospace scientist and former President of India, the late APJ Abdul Kalam.
The organisation has planned to install statues of Abdul Kalam in all the erstwhile districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Thirteen statues prepared for installation in AP were unveiled by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in May this year at Amaravati.
Speaking to Telangana Today, Vibrants of Kalam founder Vijay Kalam informed that the statues, each 10 feet in height, have been sculpted by a sculptor Modugu Prasad of Tiruvur in AP’s Krishna district. Statues required for installation in Telangana are being prepared.
It is being planned to install the first statue of Abdul Kalam at a Municipal Park at Pithapuram, where AP Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan would soon unveil the statue.
The statues would be installed at main junctions or Municipal Parks with the help of the local administration. The cost of the entire project is around Rs 1 crore, which includes Rs 1 lakh for each statue as well as the cost of platform construction for erecting the statues, he noted.
Explaining the purpose of installing Abdul Kalam’s statues, Vijay Kalam informed that even after ten years after the death of the former President, he could not find a statue of Abdul Kalam for paying homage in his birth and death anniversaries.
“As the founder of Vibrants of Kalam, the biggest organisation in the country dedicated to spreading the vision and ideology of Abdul Kalam, I felt it is my responsibility to install his statues. So that the present day youth and future generations could draw inspiration from him, ” he averred.
Vijay Kalam revealed that the height of the statue was fixed at ten feet to mark the tenth death anniversary of the former President this year. He is planning to unveil Abdul Kalam’s statue in Telangana by Chief Minister, A Revanth Reddy this November.
He aims to complete the installation of statues in all the 23 erstwhile districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh by the next year July 27, the death anniversary of Abdul Kalam. After which every year events like elocution, essay writing, quiz and others would be conducted for school students and youth on his birth and death anniversaries and prizes would be distributed, he added.
