Hyderabad: Family members of a 24-year-software engineer Saikrishna Samala, a resident of Nakrekal, Nalgonda, who was declared as brain dead by neuro-physicians, have donated the organs of the deceased under State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.

On December 11, Saikrishna suffered serious injuries when he fell from his bike while driving in Suryapet. He sustained a head injury and was rushed to a local hospital and later shifted to Yashoda Hospitals, Malakpet. After four-days of intensive ICU care, the health condition of Saikrishna did not improve and the doctors declared him as brain dead due to multiple injuries including severe traumatic brain injury.

The hospital doctors, counsellors and Jeevandan volunteers conducted grief counselling sessions with the family members of Saikrishna including his father Janakiramulu Samala, who runs a medical shop at Nekrekal.

The family members agreed to donate the organs of the deceased and surgeons retrieved two kidneys, liver, heart and two corneas and sent them to various transplant centres based on the organ donation guidelines of Jeevandan. Senior officials at Jeevandan including thanked the family members of the software professional for the noble act.
