Adilabad: Family members of a woman who died in a road accident staged a dharna on Monday, demanding the arrest of the car driver accused of causing her death by rash and negligent driving at Bazarhathnoor mandal centre on Sunday evening.
Police said Kaninde Rathna, 48, of Bazarhathnoor mandal headquarters, suffered grievous injuries when a car rammed into the bullock cart in which she was travelling, leading to her instant death. Her son Lakshman sustained minor injuries and was admitted to a hospital. A case has been registered against the driver.
The aggrieved family members laid siege to the driver’s house with the body and demanded his immediate arrest. They refused to perform the final rites till Monday evening, alleging that his rash and negligent driving had caused Rathna’s death.
On receiving information, Adilabad DSP L Jeevan Reddy visited the protest site and assured the family of justice, stating that stern action would be taken against the accused after the investigation. Following his assurance, the family members withdrew their protest.
