Karimnagar: The long arm of law caught up with Bakar Ali at last. Nemesis caught up with him at last when a police team intercepted his vehicle in a check point and realised that they netted a crimnal responsible for as many as 107 chain snatchings in different states in the last one decade. Bakar Ali who has many aliases and leads a criminal gang is indeed a recalcitrant as he was jailed under Preventive Detention Act thrice so far in Hyderabad, Chennai and Zaheerbad too. With his arrest, the Karimnagar police cracked 11 fresh cases of chain snatchings in addition to halting the spree of crimes, disclosed Karimangar CP V B Kamalasan Reddy here on Saturday.
The arrest came after a dramatic chase of Baka Ali’s car near Sholapur by a police team lead by Inspector Suresh sometime ago. The plainclothes policemen caught up with him near a toll plaza and surrounded the car with weapons drawn. They broke the windshield of the car in a bid to stop it. But despite the weapons being pointed at him, Bakar Ali managed to speed away from the toll plaza. Policemen, who were caught unawares searched the forest area and found the car later. They found a SIM card and that helped the Karimnagar team to nab him in Jammikunta with Ganja.
Kamalasan Reddy said another peculiarity was that the gang members used a car and a motorcycle in chain snatchings. Those in the car would switch over to motorcycle wearing different clothes, so that CCTV footage would not record the same offenders. After the snatching, policemen checked footage and noticed the car and the motorcycle were moving together. That roused suspicions and the team went to Maharashtra, Karnataka searching for them. Near Sholapur, police recognised the car that drove past them in the other direction and began chasing it only to be hoodwinked again at the Sholapur toll plaza. Bakar Ali had confessed 11 chain snatchings in Mahabubngar, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Kurnool, Vijayawada and Krishna districts. Investigation is in progress.
