Karimnagar: NABARD Chairman Govinda Rajulu Chinthala said the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) has completely transformed the parched fields of Telangana into lush green fields similar to Godavari districts (Konaseema) in Andhra Pradesh.

“When I was working in Hyderabad some years ago, parched lands used to appear on either side of the road on any route from the State capital. However, a lot of developmental activity has taken place in the recent past. Besides green fields, a number of restaurants, hotels and other business establishments have appeared along the roads everywhere. All these materialised only because of KLIS,” he said.

The NABARD Chairman made these comments while participating in the centenary celebrations of Karimnagar District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) held under the chairmanship of its chaiman Konduri Ravinder Rao here on Tuesday. Chinthala formally launched the mobile app and IMPS services to launch the digital services of the cooperative bank.

Incidentally, the Karimnagar DCCB is the first cooperative in Telangana State to launch digital banking services for its customers on par with any scheduled commercial bank. Speaking on the occasion, Chintala hailed Karimnagar DCCB for its best business practices to emerge as the best cooperative bank in the country and win several national awards. He called upon the people of the district to patronage the DCCB, which had emerged as a role model for all the cooperative banks in the country.

Hailing the Karimnagar DCCB for winning the NABARD best cooperative award during its foundation day recently, he stressed on the need to strengthen the PACS, which were the pillars of the cooperative system. He informed that the NABARD had provided the lion’s share of more than Rs 80,000 crore financial assistance to the two Telugu speaking States, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, during this financial year.

Minister for Social Welfare Koppula Eshwar urged upon the NABARD to take measures to open more processing units to give value addition to the farm produce and increase their income sources. He appreciated the Karimnagar DCCB for making strides under the dynamic leadership of its chairman Ravinder Rao and emerging as a role model in the country. Minister for Civil Supplies and BC Welfare Gangula Kamalakar called upon the Karimnagar DCCB to win over the confidence of the customers and strive for its successful journey by providing all services for the economic empowerment of all sections of society for the coming 100 years.

KRIBHCO chairman and International Cooperative Alliance –Asia Pacific president Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav stressed on the need to strengthen the rural economy by strengthening the PACS, which would act as change agents in the rural areas. He also informed the PACS to diversify their activities and value addition to the farmers’ produce to get more profits.

Appreciating Karimnagar DCCB chairman for transforming the DCCB as the number one cooperative bank in the country, he called upon Ravinder Rao, who was also chairman of NAFSCOB, to implement the success formula of Karimnagar DCCB in all other cooperative banks in the country.

IFFCO chairman Dileep Sanghani, NAFED chairman Dr Bijender Singh and its vice chairman Dr Sunil Kumar Singh, NCARDB chairman Sivadasab Nair, NAFSCOB MD Bhima Subramanyam, TS planning board vice chairman B Vinod Kumar, Collector RV Karnan, ZP chairpersons of integrated Karimnagar district, and others were also present.
