Karimnagar: Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao said on Monday that the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC) decided to construct a major drainage system to facilitate the draining of seepage water from Lower Manair Dam as well as stormwater in the city. The drainage would be constructed as part of the Smart City programme at a cost of Rs 135 crore.
Stating that the tender process had already been completed, he said the works would start soon. The Mayor was speaking after laying the foundation stone for developmental works in 33 and 11 divisions here. Residents of Gouthaminagar, Kattarampur, Alkapuri and Kothirampur were facing severe hardships due to water seepage from LMD and stormwater during the rainy season. To find a permanent solution to the problem, the corporation decided to take up the drainage system.
Earlier, people used to face problems to reach Gouthaminagar. However, a road is being laid from Gouthaminagar to Ambedkar stadium as part of the Smart City programme. Works have reached the final stage.
Road works were stalled for some time due to technical problems and resumed recently as the problem was solved. Kattarampur road would be turned into a smart road in the coming two months, he said. Besides solving street lights problems, high mass lights were also arranged at main centres.
Steps have been taken up to develop all divisions equally in a planned manner. To develop greenery in Sircilla bypass road, the multi-level plantation has also been taken up in road divider. Besides providing basic facilities, parks, open gyms, walking tracks were also being developed for the benefit of the people. Promising to develop the town on all fronts, the Mayor sought cooperation from the public to continue developmental works. Executive engineer Raman, DE Masood Ali, AEs Gangadhar and Vani participated in the programme.
