Hyderabad: Kochi Blue Spikers bowed out of the tournament with a solid win over Ahmedabad Defenders in the RR Kabel Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium on Tuesday. The Spikers triumphed 15-13, 14-16, 17-15, 15-9. Erin Varghese was named the Player of the Match. The result did not affect Ahmedabad’s position in the table, as they had already secured a spot in the semi-finals.
Ahmedabad started strong with Battur Batsuuri’s missile-like attacks. A super serve from Kochi’s Jasjodh Singh bridged the gap between the two teams. Jasjodh further motivated the Spikers with a super block on Shon T. John. Excellent defending from Amrinderpal Singh helped Kochi take the first set.
In the second set, Erin Varghese’s ferocious serves caught Ahmedabad off-guard, and the Spikers continued their momentum. However, Ahmedabad made strategic substitutions, bringing Nandhagopal and Akhin onto the court. This new formation proved effective, with Akhin blocking Kochi’s relentless attacks from the middle zone, allowing the Defenders to level the score.
A smart review by Ahmedabad helped them reclaim a crucial point. Despite this, Kochi regained control, with tremendous defending from Jasjodh and powerful cross-body spikes from Hemanth. The tables turned again, and the Spikers dominated the third set, largely due to Nicolas Marechal’s key role in the backcourt.
Hemanth continued to put pressure on Ahmedabad’s defense with strong spikes. Unforced errors compounded Ahmedabad’s problems. Libero Alan Ashique’s quickfire defensive moves saved Kochi some crucial points. Amrinderpal and Jasjodh continued to dominate the middle zone, which helped the Spikers maintain the advantage. Kochi eventually won the game after a faulty serve from Arshak Sinan sealed the deal.
