Rajanna-Sircilla: Kodemokku, the popular ritual at the Rajarajeshwara Swamy temple, Vemulawada, has been suspended. Temple executive officer Krishna Prasad issued orders on Thursday in this regard.
In the wake of a huge number of the people from the temple town as well as surrounding villages being infected by the Coronavirus, shrine authorities have taken the decision.
On the other hand, local traders have decided to impose self-lockdown in the temple town from Thursday onwards. It was decided in a meeting organized by Municipal Chairperson Ramathirthapu Madhavi with the representatives of Arya Vysya Sangham on Wednesday.
Partial lockdown will be continued up to May 15 and all business establishments will be operated from 6 am to 2 pm. Municipal chairperson thanked traders for coming forward voluntarily for self-lockdown.
The spurt of Covid cases in the temple town began after Shivakalyana held on March 31. As devotees were not allowed inside the shrine to take part in the celestial wedding of the presiding deity, scores of pilgrims had stranded outside the temple.
Streets of the surrounding temple were jam packed with the devotees. Since then the number of corona positive cases have been enhanced in the temple town.
All traders running business near the temple were infected by the virus. With positive cases had been enhanced in and around Vemulwada town, shrine authorities had closed the temple for devotees for five days from April 18 to 22 on the occasion of Sri Ramanavami held on April 21.
Later, besides ordinary darshanam, Kodemmokku was resumed. However, Kodemokku ritual is also cancelled from Thursday. At present, only ordinary darsham is available for the devotees.
