Komatireddy pitches for Jagga Reddy as TPCC chief, sparks fresh row in Congress
Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy sparked controversy by backing Jagga Reddy for the TPCC president post, claiming the Congress could win 100 seats under his leadership, despite party leadership advising against informal media interactions.
Hyderabad: Stirring a fresh controversy, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has pitched for TPCC working president T Jagga Reddy to be appointed as the new TPCC president, replacing incumbent Mahesh Kumar Goud.
“If Jagga Reddy is appointed as the new TPCC president, the Congress party will win 100 seats in the next elections,” Venkat Reddy said during an informal interaction with media persons on Tuesday.
The R&B Minister praised Jagga Reddy’s leadership qualities, describing him as a mass leader with a strong following. “Like former CLP leader, late P Janardhan Reddy, Jagga Reddy always helps the needy. He is like another PJR,” Venkat Reddy said. Notably, the Minister made these remarks despite Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy advising party leaders, especially MLAs and Ministers, to refrain from informal interactions with the media.
Mahesh Kumar Goud was appointed TPCC president on September 6, 2024. He is the fourth president of the Telangana Congress unit after State bifurcation and took over the reins from Revanth Reddy. Though TPCC presidents are generally appointed for a minimum term of three years, there have been instances of shorter tenures. After State bifurcation, former Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah served as TPCC president from March 2014 to March 2015.
