Konda Surekha loses followers as internal bickering continues in Warangal Congress

Factional politics in Warangal (East) Assembly constituency escalated as Endowments Minister Konda Surekha faced desertion by senior leaders, including TPCC member Nalgonda Ramesh, who joined Baswaraj Saraiah’s faction. While Surekha dismissed the dissidents’ meeting as a publicity stunt, her remarks branding senior leaders as “petty” drew sharp criticism.

Warangal: As internal bickering continues in Warangal (East) Assembly constituency in the district, Endowment Minister Konda Surekha is losing her followers.

Many senior leaders such as TPCC member Nalgonda Ramesh have been distancing themselves from the Konda couple, who are accused of neglecting their long-time followers in recent times. Ramesh who was once a strong supporter of the Konda couple, joined former Minister Baswaraj Saraiah’s faction recently.

Interesting developments unfolded on Tuesday as the minister toured the constituency. As the minister launched development works at Weaker Sections’ Colony, the dissidents held a meeting at Rangasaipet close to the colony.

Former minister Saraiah, senior leaders Rajanala Srihari, Karate Prabhakar, Ramesh, the local corporator Gundeti Narender and others attended the meeting aimed at expressing dissent against the minister’s alleged negligence towards the seniors.

However, the minister Surekha dismissed her opponents’ meeting as a cheap publicity stunt while claiming that the Congress cadres are with her. No matter how many secret meetings the petty leaders hold, they could not affect the Konda couple’s popularity among the public, she said.

Taking serious exception to her comments Nalgonda Ramesh and others condemned the remarks saying that she hurt the sentiments of senior leaders by calling them petty individuals. He demanded the minister to withdraw her remarks.

He further stated that those who have switched parties between YSRCP, BRS and Congress should introspect. The minister had forgotten those ensured her victory in the previous Assembly elections and embraced the very corporators who campaigned against the party in the elections.

The future of Warangal (East) has been placed in the hands of a former rowdy-sheeter, he said with reference to a follower of Konda couple, Naveen Raj, who was often in the news for wrong reasons.

Meanwhile, the followers of the Konda couple launched a campaign on social media hitting Saraiah and exposing his alleged corrupt practices when he worked as the minister. They accused Saraiah of damaging BRS with group politics when he was in that party and doing the same in Congress now.
