Hyderabad: Amid demands from a section of Congress MLAs for her removal from the State Cabinet, Forest Minister Konda Surekha tied a Rakhi to Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy at his residence here on Friday.
The gesture came against the backdrop of a political controversy triggered by her daughter Konda Sushmitha’s allegations that the Chief Minister had allotted prime government land to a shell company linked to his brother at a throwaway price.
Several Congress MLAs objected to the allegations and demanded stern action against Surekha, including her removal from the Cabinet. The demands had raised uncertainty over whether the Minister would meet the Chief Minister and follow the Rakhi tradition this year.
Putting an end to the speculation, Surekha visited Revanth Reddy’s residence and tied the Rakhi to him.
Speaking to the media later, Surekha said she had tied Rakhi to the Chief Minister as she had done over the past two years. Asked about the demands by Congress MLAs for action against her, Surekha declined to comment. “I do not want to comment on this auspicious festive day,” she said.
