Mahabubnagar: Kosgi municipality, part of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal constituency, is reeling under a severe drinking water crisis. Scenes of women carrying empty pots and arguing over water, which had almost disappeared over the last 10 years, are now being witnessed at several places in the constituency.
On Thursday, residents of Nagisanpally in the fifth ward had a tough time fetching water after a tanker was supplied to the locality.
Kosgi municipality has 16 wards, of which four to five are severely affected by the water crisis. Borewells have dried up in several areas, forcing the municipality to provide water through water tankers once every two days. Mission Bhagiratha water supply has also been affected. The situation is similar in several areas across the eight mandals in the constituency.
The Kosgi municipality has been supplying water through tankers to the worst-affected wards. Each colony and locality is being supplied with a 5,500-litre tanker once every two days. However, residents complain that the arrangement is inadequate to meet household requirements.
Locals also allege that some water pipelines were damaged during the recent road-widening works in the municipality. They complain that repairs are progressing at a snail’s pace, further disrupting water supply.
Residents allege that priority is being given to road works and water supply to the Hakimpet Education Hub. They claim that water from Dandem Cheruvu is being diverted to the education hub at Hakimpet and for other works in the region.
The locals of Kosgi and Didyala mandals are demanding that this water be diverted to residential colonies to meet household requirements and to provide relief from the crisis.
