Kothagudem: Pamphlets against the Maoist leadership appeared in several villages in Cherla mandal in the district on Friday. The pamphlets published in the name of Adivasi Sanghams accused the Maoists of claiming innocent tribals’ lives by planting booby-traps and landmines in the forests and near tribal habitations.

Though the Maoists target police personnel with their booby-traps and landmines, they were causing more harm to tribal youths as well as elders. In addition to that, cattle reared by Adivasis were also becoming victims of such traps, the pamphlet said.

The Adivasi Sanghams also printed images of cattle and people that died because of the hidden explosives set up by Maoists. Recently, an Adivasi youth died in a landmine explosion after he accidentally stepped on it.

Hundreds of booby-traps with iron spikes fixed to wooden planks are being planted in pits dug in the earth in the forests to harm the police. But they were posing grave danger to the lives of tribals who move around forests collecting forest products to make a living, the pamphlet said.

Because of the naxals’ traps, many Adivasis have died but the Maoist top leadership remained apathetic. The pamphlet publishers sought to know whether the Maoist leadership was aware of the loss of Adivasi lives and if they knew why they were still planting such traps in the forests.

The Sangham leaders advised the youth to understand the fact that Naxals were employing tribal youths to plant booby-traps and landmines in the forests and the tribals were becoming victims of such traps.
