Kothagudem: Auto driver held for attempt to rape girl at knifepoint
The accused picked up the girl from a labour 'adda' on the pretext of offering work and took her to a forest area
Kothagudem: An autorickshaw driver who allegedly attempted to rape a young girl at knifepoint was arrested by the Laxmidevipalli police in the district.
Speaking to the media, Kothagudem DSP Shaik Abdul Rahaman said the accused Damsalapudi Narasimha Rao of Papakollu village in Juluparpad mandal picked up two girls from a labour ‘adda’ at the post office centre in Kothagudem on March 10 on the pretext of offering them work.
He dropped one of the girls at the Sammakka Saralamma Temple at Paloncha and took the other one to Anishettypalli forest area where he tried to abuse her sexually.
The girl resisted and hit him in the face with her mobile phone, following which the accused threatened her with a knife and caused a bleeding injury on her cheek.
Later the accused left the girl at the spot and fled in an autorickshaw that he allegedly stole at Mahabubabad some time ago.
He abandoned the vehicle in the Chathakonda forest area. After a few days, he went to Hanamkonda and stole another auto and mobile phone from a passenger in the vehicle. On the way to his native village, he stole another mobile phone at Vinoba Nagar.
He was caught by police during vehicle inspections at the forest complex at Yellandu crossroads on Saturday and the stolen autorickshaw as well as mobile phones were recovered.
The accused confessed to police that he had stolen another autorickshaw as well at Bonakal in Khammam.
