Kothagudem: Demand grows for courts at Paloncha, Sujatha Nagar
The sanctioning of five Additional Junior Civil Judges-cum-Additional Judicial Magistrate of First Class Courts for Kothagudem district has triggered demands from legal and people's organisations to establish courts at Paloncha and Sujatha Nagar instead of concentrating three of them in Kothagudem town.
Kothagudem: Sanctioning of five Additional Junior Civil Judges-cum-Additional Judicial Magistrate of First Class Courts to Kothagudem district has given rise to a demand to set up one such court each at Paloncha and Sujatha Nagar.
It may be noted that the Telangana State Law Department on September 24, 2026, issued a GO Ms No. 59 sanctioning 200 Additional Junior Civil Judges-cum-Additional Judicial Magistrate of First Class Courts in 33 districts across the State.
Of them, five courts have been sanctioned for Kothagudem district with three at Kothagudem, one each at Bhadrachalam and Manuguru. Following this, people’s organisations and legal associations have demanded that one court each be set up at Paloncha and Sujatha Nagar instead of setting up three courts at Kothagudem itself, arguing that decentralising the courts is essential.
Telangana Federation of Bar Associations president Lakkineni Satyanarayana requested the State government and the Telangana High Court to establish at least one Additional Junior Civil Judge court at Paloncha town, out of the three courts allocated to Kothagudem.
Palvoncha, known as a ‘Power City’, has witnessed rapid growth in population, industrial activity, and land and property transactions. Consequently, disputes relating to family, commerce and labour matters have increased, creating a pressing need for a permanent court in the town, he stated.
Satyanarayana further stated that it is not a demand to diminish the importance of Kothagudem, but rather a legitimate request to ensure the balanced expansion of legal services across the district, making them more accessible to the public.
Meanwhile, Palvocha Praja Vedika leader Sama Sandeep Reddy also wanted one of the three courts allocated to Kothagudem assigned to Paloncha. People still have to travel to Kothagudem for civil cases, bearing additional time and travel costs to attend court matters, he said.
On the other hand, Jalagam Yuvasena leader Syed Yaqoob Ali noted that just as in the case of Paloncha, there is a pressing need for a court at Sujatha Nagar, a large mandal with over 30 surrounding villages.
Therefore, if one of the three courts sanctioned for Kothagudem is established at Paloncha and another at Sujatha Nagar, it would ensure speedy justice for the residents. Case hearings could then take place close to their homes, eliminating the need to travel to distant locations, he added.
