Kothagudem: The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) here has been brightening up the lives of rural youth by helping them acquire job skills and employment opportunities. The agency during the past four years has helped as many as 2,156 rural youth to gain employment in different private companies, locally and other districts including the State capital, Hyderabad.
Job skills and communication skills are being imparted to educated rural youth in the district through the Employment Generation and Marketing Mission (EGMM), which is a constituent initiative of State Rural Livelihood Mission (SRLM).
Speaking to Telangana Today, District Rural Development Officer (DRDO) G Madhusudhana Raju informed that the EGMM has been successfully implementing Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY). The objective of EGMM is employment and employability enhancement of below poverty level rural youth through market-driven and industry-relevant training with a mission to help them secure a sustainable livelihood.
EGMM has its own English Work Readiness and Computer (EWRC) Training centres located in all the districts of Telangana. It provides 90 days of training on basic computer skills, retail and soft skills and after successful completion of training, placement opportunity is provided.
“We have English Work Readiness and Computer (EWRC) Training Centres at Chunchupalli, Kothagudem and Paloncha. They provide 90-day training on basic computer skills, retail and soft skills to candidates with tenth, degree, PG, polytechnic diploma, ITI and engineering qualifications. Training is also provided in beautician, electrician, pharmacy and other courses”, Raju said.
From the financial year 2018-19 to till date hundreds of job melas have been organised and around 1,142 candidates have been placed in companies like Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory, Apollo Pharmacy, Axis Bank, Flipkart and others, the DRDO informed.
He further informed that around 705 candidates secured jobs under DDU-GKY and 309 youths gained employment under Special Central Assistance (SCA) to Scheduled Caste Sub Plan and Tribal Sub Plan. With the Covid crisis easing now it is planned to organise more job melas in coming days.
