Kothagudem: Staff at the Kothagudem excise police station revolted against CI Jayashree, accusing her of harassing them while a female constable attempted suicide.
The constable, K Akhila, attempted suicide by consuming tablets used for allergy symptoms and other common ailments last Friday, and was treated. She said she had taken the step unable to bear the alleged harassment by the CI. Akhila’s family members staged a dharna at the excise office on Monday demanding action against the CI.
On Tuesday, the leaders of the excise staff association met the CI to discuss the issue, but she downplayed it saying Akhila just “played a drama”, while maintaining that she had not troubled anyone at the station.
The same day, as many as 10 staffers at the station signed a written complaint against the CI to submit to Excise Superintendent Janaiah. But as he was not available, they planned to submit the complaint the next day, but could not do so as he was not available on Wednesday as well.
In the complaint, the staff alleged that Jayashree has been troubling them with harsh and abusive words besides creating conflicts among the staff. The CI reportedly threatened to commit suicide by writing down the staff names if they turn against her.
The Excise Superintendent is said to have assured the staff that he would probe the issue and submit a report to higher authorities. The CI was reportedly summoned to Khammam to appear before Deputy Commissioner to discuss the matter.
