Kothagudem: Mild tension prevailed at Kothagudem Thermal Power Station (KTPS) at Paloncha in the district on Thursday when the family members of two labourers who died in an accident at the KTPS staged a dharna.
The two labourers hired by a contractor fell from the roof of the KTPS’s coal handling plant on Wednesday while they were fixing the roof sheets of the plant and died on the way to the hospital.
The family members of the deceased B Mangilal (38) and B Santhosh (22) of Karakavagu of Paloncha mandal, staged a protest at KTPS gate demanding justice for them. The contractor failed to ensure the safety of the workers and KTPS official’s failed to monitor the safety norms at the workplace, they alleged.
Local MLA Vanama Venkateshwara Rao visited the spot and spoke to the affected families. He later held talks with KTPS 7th stage Chief Engineer, Venkateshwar Rao and Director (HR), Ajay seeking justice to the labourer’s families.
Congress leader Adavelli Krishna and others also interacted with the family members of the deceased and later spoke to the plant Chief Engineer. He demanded an ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore each to the deceased labourers’ families and a job in KTPS for one of their family members.
