Kothagudem: Tension prevailed at Ramanujavaram village in Manuguru mandal in the district on Monday when local farmers opposed the land acquisition for BTPS railway line.
Sources said TS Genco officials along with police visited the village to acquire the land for laying railway line connecting Bhadradri Thermal Power Station (BTPS) with Manugur station for transportation of coal to the power plant. The farmers, however, objected to taking possession of the lands by Genco officers without revenue officers and destroying standing crops with JCBs. They expressed their ire over officials forcibly acquiring the lands ‘without paying proper compensation.’
They entered into an altercation with police and Genco officials, and this led to a tense situation. The police then dispersed the farmers using force. The locals accused the police of indiscriminately attacking the farmers and misbehaving with women.
