Kothagudem: Forest officials take custody of Indian vulture spotted recently at Cherla
Forest officials in Kothagudem have taken custody of Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) tagged endangered Indian vulture spotted in Cherla three days ago.
Kothagudem: Forest officials have taken custody of an endangered Indian vulture (Gyps indicus) which was sighted at Cherla in the district three days ago.
It might be noted that the bird was spotted by the local labourers, who caught it, fed chicken and later released it. It was radio tagged by Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) in Pench Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra on August 10 as part of their research activity and monitoring its movements.
There have been concerns over the bird’s well being as it stopped transmitting on September 30. When contacted Cherla FRO Dwalia told Telangana Today that the bird was spotted at Pedda Midisileru area in Cherla mandal on Thursday and it was lodged at the local forest office.
Due to lack of food the bird has become weak and now it was doing well after it was fed meat as per the directions of higher officials. As there was no veterinarian available at Cherla its health condition could not be checked, he added.
