Kothagudem: Police have seized dry ganja worth Rs 6 lakh and arrested four persons at Bhadrachalam in the district.
ASP Vineeth G, giving details of the case to media persons at Bhadrachalam on Wednesday, said that on Tuesday evening, Bhadrachalam CI T Swamy and his staff inspected vehicles near the Bhadrachalam bus stand. During the inspection, they found 40 kg of ganja in the possession of four suspects and they were arrested. They were identified as Mohammad Intiaz of Srinagar Colony, Muthineni Kishan Kumar of Raportinagar and Mohammad Mujamil Baba of Quilla Bazaar, Khammam and Korra Dhara Babu, of Chintapalli GK Veeddhi mandal of Visakhapatnam district, AP.
They confessed to the police that they along with four others have formed a gang and have been smuggling marijuana for the past two years. Dhara Babu was supplying ganja to them and he was booked in eight cases at Bhadrachalam police station.
During the period of 2020-2021 Dhara Babu had supplied an estimated 859 kg of ganja worth Rs 1.28 crore to the gang. Kishan Kumar used to finance the ganja smuggling and sold the substance in Khammam, Hyderabad and other places.
Cases have been registered against the arrested under the NDPS Act and they were shifted to the court for judicial remand. Special teams have been formed to nab the four others, the ASP said.
