Kothagudem: As part of its livelihood support initiative, JD Foundation has been helping women from poor financial backgrounds to run small businesses in Kothagudem district. Recently the members of JD (Join for Development) Foundation, Bhadrachalam have come to the rescue of two women who are finding it difficult in making their ends meet. The foundation members have raised funds to provide them livelihood support.

A small scale grocery store has been established for the benefit of a woman called Velpula Aruna at Turubaka village of Dummugudem mandal in the district. An amount of Rs 28,500, contributed by the foundation members, has been spent in setting up the shop.

Speaking to Telangana Today on Monday the JD Foundation’s erstwhile Khammam Convener K Murali Mohan Kumar informed that Aruna’s husband Kiran was bed-ridden following a paralysis stroke and the family was in dire straits. Upon learning their plight it was planned to provide a grocery store and it was handed over to Aruna by Dummugudem Inspector of Police Venkat a couple of days ago. The store will help her to make a decent earning and look after her family, he hoped.

In a similar manner, a footwear store on four-wheeled cart was handed over to Kadari Lalitha of Bhadrachalam on Sunday to help her make an earning. She lost her husband a sometime back and she was living with her aged mother, who makes a living by selling vegetables. “So far we have helped four women by setting up shops as part of our livelihood initiative. It is a unique programme being implemented by JD Foundation in the district. We strongly hope that all will be successful” he said.

Both Aruna and Lalitha, while expressing gratitude to Bhadrachalam Chambers of Commerce and Industry, secretary, Kambhampati Suresh Kumar and other donors who made generous donations to help them, said they are willing to work hard to make their enterprises successful.
