Kothagudem MLAs son Vanama Raghavendra Rao sent to judicial custody at Bhadrachalam Sub-Jail in the district on Saturday.
Kothagudem: A court here on Saturday remanded the local MLA’s son Vanama Raghavendra Rao alias Raghava to judicial custody following his arrest in the case of abetting a businessman and three members of his family to suicide at Old Paloncha.
He was on the run after an FIR was registered by Paloncha police in the case. Raghava, his associate Mukthivi Girish and car driver K Murali Krishna, on their way to Hyderabad, were apprehended by Dammapet police on Friday night and produced before Paloncha ASP, the investigating officer in the case.
Raghava was produced before second additional first class magistrate court in Kothagudem and the judge, M Neelima remanded him to 14-days judicial custody. Subsequently police shifted him to Bhadrachalam Sub-Jail.
Speaking to the media at Paloncha ASP, B Rohith Raj informed that police have thoroughly questioned Raghava over his involvement in the Old Paloncha incident that took place on Jan 3. He claimed that the accused confessed to his involvement in the incident.
A statement was recorded in connection with the Old Paloncha incident and cases previously registered against the accused. In all he was facing 12 cases under IPC Sections 307 (Attempt to murder), 306 (Abetment of suicide) and 353 (deterring public servant from discharge of his duty). A thorough investigation has been taken into all the cases.
The ASP claimed that during questioning police gathered crucial information from the accused regarding the Old Paloncha incident, pending cases and obtained all the information they needed in the probe.
It might be noted that the MLA’s son was named in the suicide note purportedly left by a man, M Naga Ramakrishna, who killed himself after committing familicide at his residence at Old Paloncha. The deceased also released a selfie video to that effect.
The dead man also named his mother Suryavathi and his sister L Madhavi in the letter. The police registered an FIR against the three including the deceased, Naga Ramakrishna (charged with murder IPC 302).
The police said Madhavi and Suryavathi were absconding. Raghava’s associates Chava Srinivas and Ramakanth were also absconding and they would soon be arrested. Meanwhile, a group of locals gathered at the ASP office and shouted slogans demanding to execute Raghava publicly.
NSUI district president suspended
NSUI district president Mukthivi Girish, who was arrested along with Kothagudem MLA’s son V Raghavendra Rao at Dammapet on Friday night, was suspended from the organisation. NSUI State president B Venkat Narsing Rao said Girish has breached the organisational discipline. Hence he was suspended from the primary membership of NSUI. Girish was arrested for aiding Raghavendra Rao, charged with abetment to suicide of a family at Old Paloncha in the district, to go into hiding and avoid arrest in connection with the case.
