Kothagudem: A worker died and two others were injured in an accident at ITC Limited Paperboards and Specialty Papers Division (PSPD) unit at Sarapaka in Burgampad mandal in the district on Thursday.

The deceased, K Venkateswarlu (35), of Mothepatti Nagar in the mandal, died on the spot when an iron sheet fell on him while he and other workers were engaged in dismantling a coal firing boiler at the unit, sources said.

The injured workers, Jagadish and Nagaraju, were shifted to Bhadrachalam Area Hospital for treatment and one of them was in critical condition. The accident victims were working for a contracting agency based at Paloncha and lack of safety measures caused the death of the worker, sources said.

CITU district vice president, K Brahma Chary demanded Rs 25 lakh ex-gratia to the family of the deceased workers besides a job to one of the family members in the company. He also wanted Rs 5 lakh compensation for the injured persons and better treatment for them.
