Kothagudem police seizes 385 kg ganja worth Rs 2 crore, arrests six in two cases
Kothagudem police seized 385 kilograms of ganja worth around Rs 2 crore and arrested six persons in two separate cases during vehicle inspections. Police said over 15,000 kilograms of ganja have been seized in the district since the beginning of 2024

Kothagudem: The district police seized 385 kilograms of ganja and arrested six persons in two different cases.
According to an official release issued here on Friday, acting under the directions of Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju, the police conducted vehicle inspections across various parts of the district, resulting in the seizure of ganja estimated to be worth Rs 2 crore.
During vehicle inspections at the RTO check-post, Aswaraopet police and Task Force personnel intercepted a four-member interstate gang travelling from the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border to Rajasthan and seized 300 kilograms of ganja from their possession. One car and one truck were seized, four accused were arrested, and cases were registered against them.
Similarly, Laxmidevipalli police and Task Force personnel intercepted a car travelling from Odisha towards Bengaluru, seized 85 kilograms of ganja found in the vehicle, and seized the car. Two accused were arrested and cases were registered against them.
Since the beginning of 2024, as many as 212 ganja-related cases have been registered across the district; 15,398 kilograms of ganja have been seized; 677 accused have been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. The estimated value of the ganja seized to date stands at Rs 77 crore.
So far, the Preventive Detention (PD) Act has been invoked against three individuals, and they have been sent to prison. Ten individuals found consuming ganja in the district were identified and subsequently shifted to a de-addiction centre, the release said.
The police have appealed to the public to report any information they may have regarding individuals involved in the transportation or consumption of the banned substance. SP B Rohith Raju commended the Task Force, Aswaraopet and Laxmidevipalli police for their efforts in seizing the ganja.
