Kothagudem: Polytechnic students protest GO 97, seek withdrawal of merger with YISU at Manuguru

Polytechnic students staged a dharna at Pinapaka MLA Payam Venkateswarlu’s camp office in Manuguru on Thursday, opposing GO 97. They alleged that merging polytechnic education with Young India Skill University under a PPP model would increase fees and promote privatisation.

Kothagudem: Polytechnic students staged a dharna in front of Pinapaka MLA’s camp office at Manuguru in the district on Thursday in protest against the GO 97 released by the State government.

The protesting students alleged that the government order which proposes merging polytechnic education into the Young India Skill University (YISU) under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. They displayed placards with slogans such as ‘Save polytechnics’ and ‘Save our future.’

Merging the State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET) into the Young India Skill University (YISU) would be detrimental to the future of the students. Moving colleges under a PPP model would drastically raise tuition fees, they complained.

The Congress government’s plan to merge polytechnic colleges with YISU could threaten the students’ future and promote privatization. Hence the government should withdraw its decision of bringing polytechnic education under the YISU, the students demanded.

MLA Payam Venkateswarlu, speaking after receiving a memorandum submitted by the students assurance that their grievance would be taken up with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and get it resolved.
