Kothagudem: As many as 119 Maoists surrendered, 62 arrested and seven important cadres of CPI (Maoist) party have been neutralised in the year 2021, informed Superintendent of Police (SP) Sunil Dutt.
The SP released the annual crime report here on Friday. District police effectively curbed left wing extremism and the district remained free from extremist violence during the year. Around 510 booby traps, a huge haul of arms, ammunition and explosive material seized, he said.
In an important step police successfully set up a base camp in a key interior and highly affected village Chennapuram of Cherla mandal for bridging the gap between the interior tribes and police.
The Police could wean the innocent tribes away from the ideology of extremists by moving into all remote agency villages where the movements of public representatives or police seldom seen hitherto.
In a bid to address the needs of inhabitants of the tribals, police provided amenities like electricity, water and roads, community halls, conducted medical camps, sports and games meets to instil confidence in the police. Around 2500 water filters, sports kits to youth and TVs were distributed.
Dutt said overall crime rate in 2021 was more or less on par with that of the crime rate of previous year 2020 as 5401 cases reported in the current year so far as against 5467 cases in 2020. Conviction rate has increased from 48 percent last year to 54 percent in the current year.
The district stood first in Telangana in implementing court duty officers (CDO) vertical in Bhadrachalam town police station, station writer vertical in Julurpad station, Blue colt vertical in Paloncha police station.
Under Operation Muskaan police rescued 109 child labours and street children including 94 boys and 15 girls and handed over to their parents and 47 arrests were made under Child Labour Act.
Central Crime Station has apprehended an important property offender and recovered Rs.1.44 crore cash which was misappropriated from Bhadradri Cooperative Urban Bank Limited at Manugur, Dutt said.
Meanwhile, domestic violence cases went up with 354 cases in this year as against 266 last year, overall crime against women came down with 127 cases in 2021 as against 134 last year. But the number of kidnappings increased with 59 cases this year, in comparison to 32 cases last year.
