Kothagudem: District Collector Anudeep Durishetty has issued a show-cause notice to the sarpanch of Nagineniprolu gram panchayat in Burgampad mandal in the district for alleged misuse of power and public funds. As per an enquiry conducted by the local Mandal Panchayat Officer (MPO) the sarpanch, B Shravani and deputy sarpanch Y Jhansi Laxmibai have issued cheques in their favour and in favour of their spouses in violation against the Panchayat Raj rules.
It was alleged as many as 116 cheques have been issued misusing the public funds to the tune of Rs 1.27 crore in favour of sarpanch Shravni and her husband B Siva Krishna and deputy sarpanch Laxmibai and her husband Y Siva Reddy. The show-cause notice mentioned that a total of 55 cheques amounting Rs 59. 92 lakh issued in favour of Shravani, 11 cheques amounting Rs 12.81 lakh issued in favour of her husband Krishna.
Similarly a total of 41 cheques amounting Rs 40. 47 lakh issued in favour of Laxmibai and nine cheques worth Rs 13.87 lakh issued in favour of her husband Siva Reddy. The show-cause notice also found fault with the involvement of the spouses of the elected members in gram panchayat administration. As per the MPO report an amount of Rs 53.89 lakh was spent on sanitation work from April 2020 to May 2021, but during inspection cheques were issued and funds were drawn for the works that were not executed.
Though the cheques have to be issued in favour of the work executing agency the elected members issued cheques in their favour and in favour of their spouses, the show-notice said.
