Kothagudem: Sitamma Sagar Project to be completed by Sep 2022

The contracting agency was told to commence the project concrete works in March and to make the material available for the purpose

Kothagudem: A deadline of September, 2022, has been set for the completion of construction of the multi-purpose Sitamma Sagar Project, Irrigation and CAD Principal Secretary Rajat Kumar said on Sunday.

Rajat Kumar and CMO Secretary Smita Sabharwal inspected Sita Rama Lift Irrigation Project in the district and visited the project’s first phase pump house at BG Kothur in Aswapuram mandal and site proposed for Sitamma Sagar Project at Ammagaripalli.


Speaking to the media, Rajat Kumar said Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was expected to lay the foundation for the Sitamma Sagar Project and the officials were told to speed up the preparatory works.

The contracting agency was told to commence the project concrete works in March and to make the material available for the purpose. The officials were directed to speed up the process of acquiring 3,200 acres of land needed for the Sitamma Sagar Project.

Government Whip R Kantha Rao, Government Advisor for Lift Irrigation Schemes K Penta Reddy, District Collector MV Reddy, ITDA Project Officer, P Gowtham, Additional Collector Anudeep D and Chief Engineer Venkata Krishna were present.

Baswapur reservoir

Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office Smita Sabharwal on Sunday instructed the officials concerned to complete the works of Baswapur reservoir taken up as 16th package of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme in Yadadri-Bhongir district by July 31.

Smitha Sabharwal, accompanied by Principal Secretary of irrigation Rajath Kumar, inspected the Baswapur reservoir works and inquired with the officials and engineers about the status of works. The reservoir will have storage capacity of 1.5 tmc of water. She also made it clear that measures would be taken up to pay compensation totalling Rs 70 crore to farmers whose lands were acquired for construction of the reservoir.

District Collector Anitha Ramachandran, Additional Collector (Revenue) Srinivas Reddy and others were also present.
