Kothagudem: Support from different political parties and people’s organisations has been pouring out to journalists here, whose indefinite protest for house sites reached the sixth day on Tuesday.

The Kothagudem Journalists’ House Sites Struggle Committee organised a ‘Vanta-Vaarpu’ programme in support of their demand. Journalists took out a protest rally and paid tributes to Telangana Martyrs Memorial at the bus stand centre.

Former Minister Vanama Venkateswara Rao, BJP district president Byreddy Prabhakar Reddy, CPI (M) district secretary Maccha Venkateswarlu, CPI (ML) New Democracy district secretary Gouni Nageshwar Rao, Jai Bheem Rao Bharat party working president Yerra Kamesh and CPI district secretary Shaik Sabir Pasha extended solidarity to the journalists.

Speaking on the occasion, they assured to stand by the journalists until they were given house plots by the State government.

It was sad that the government handed over acres of land to corporate companies at a nominal rate and asked journalists, who are constantly working for public welfare and the oppressed people, to pay crores of rupees for housing plots.

The leaders asked the government to explain how poor journalists who were working tirelessly for the betterment of society could pay crores of rupees.

They demanded that the government should open its eyes and immediately cancel the GO given in the past and give the house site at a nominal rate.

CPI leader Pasha said MLA K Sambasiva Rao was working to allot house sites for every eligible journalist.

Land for house sites has already been identified. If there are technical problems in the allocation of plots, a delegation led by the MLA would meet the State leaders to resolve them.
