Kothagudem: The land oustees of Koyagudem opencast-2 mine in Tekulapalli mandal in the district have demanded the State government to pay pending compensation for the lands acquired for the mine.
Former MP Midiam Babu Rao took part in the protest extending solidarity to the land oustees, who staged a dharna in front of RDO office here on Monday. Earlier they took out a protest rally under the aegis of Telangana Rythu Sangham from Manchikanti Bhavan to the office and submitted a petition to the RDO.
They demanded the government to implement the judgment given by the High Court with regard to the compensation. The sangham district general secretary Repakula Srinivas said that 105 tribal families belonging to Lacchagudem, Koyagudem, Dantelathanda, Kothathanda and Jethyathanda villages of Tekulapalli mandal have lost their agricultural lands for the mine.
As the government failed to pay the compensation, the displaced people approached the High Court through the sangham and Land Oustees Association. The High Court had given verdict in favour of the displaced people twice in the years 2011 and 2024.
But the government failed to implement the orders given by the court. In addition to the compensation, a job to one person from each family and alternate land should be given, Srinivas demanded.
Later in the day, former MP, CPM leader Brinda Karat, who was here to attend a meeting of AIDWA, interacted with the land oustees enquiring about the issue. Speaking to the media she demanded the government to immediately pay the compensation to the affected families.
The sangham district committee members Eesam Narasimha Rao, K Veeranna, Punem Swamy, D Sampath Kumar, Koteswara Rao, Boda Krishna, Banoth Krishna and others were present.
