Krishna Board convenes emergency meeting on Friday
The board's member secretary, D M Raypuri, sent a letter to the irrigation secretaries of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, requesting their participation in the meeting scheduled at Jala Soudha. In a recent communication, the board specified the water entitlements from the current storage of joint projects, allocating 131 TMC to Telangana and 27 TMC to Andhra Pradesh.
Hyderabad: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has called a special emergency meeting on Friday (Feb 21) to discuss the utilization of water reserves left out in the joint projects of the Telugu States.
The board’s member secretary, D M Raypuri wrote to the irrigation secretaries of Telangana and AP to request them to ensure their participation in the meeting. The meeting will be held at Jala Soudha. In a recent letter, the board indicated the entitlement of Telangana and AP as 131 tmc and 27 tmc respectively from the present storage of the joint projects.
But the net availability in both Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar projects as part of their present storage is less than 100 tmc. Telangana has strongly opposed further allocation of 27 tmcs additionally despite the fact that it had already availed its full share by now. The precarious state of the Srisailam project, over which Telangana state has already sounded a caution to NDSA and AP government, will also come up for discussion.
