Hyderabad: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) is set to shift its headquarters to Andhra Pradesh, with the relocation expected to be completed in next four months. This move aligns with sub section 85 (2) of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act (APRA) 2014, which mandates that the KRMB headquarters be situated in the successor state of Andhra Pradesh.

The Andhra Pradesh government has expressed a keen interest in facilitating this transition. Moves are afoot to provide the required office space for the river board in Vijayawada, thanks to the focus of the new government in AP which is firm on developing the new capital in Amaravati.


The Ministry of Jal Shakti has already requested the KRMB Chairman to coordinate with the Andhra Pradesh government to facilitate the relocation. The previous government in AP as offered an office space 9200 square feet of office space in Visakhapatnam instead of Vijayawada.

Currently, the KRMB operates from Jala Soudha, Hyderabad, where the office space is provided free of cost. The new government in AP preferred Vijayawada for the Board office for both logistical and administrative reasons. The new headquarters of the River Board in Andhra Pradesh will be meeting the accommodation needs of fully, according to source from the River Board.

The Telangana government has provided office space for both the Krishna River management Board as well as the Godavari River Management Board free of cost and the same gesture is expected from the AP Government.

Representations from various stakeholders, including the Saaguneeti Viniyogadaarula Sanghaala Samakhya, Vijayawada, and MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) from the Vijayawada Parliamentary Constituency, have advocated for the headquarters to be located in Vijayawada.

The board will be discussing the matter further to ensure a smooth transition of the headquarters to Andhra Pradesh, thereby fulfilling the legal requirements and addressing logistical considerations.
