Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao accused the Congress government of forcibly acquiring assigned lands belonging to Dalits and tribals in the name of industrial development. He said that after promising ownership of government lands to poor farmers before the elections, the Congress government was now depriving them of their livelihood in the name of development.

Addressing the BRS Parigi Assembly constituency general body meeting in Parigi on Friday, Rama Rao stated that assigned lands were being acquired illegally by the government in connivance with the local Congress MLA. He assured that the BRS would extend legal and political support to affected families if the land acquisition continued without consent or adequate compensation.

Referring to the Lagacherla incident, he accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of targeting tribal communities for resisting land acquisition. He alleged that false police cases were foisted on villagers and that those arrested were subjected to harassment.

Stating that the Congress had betrayed every section of society after coming to power, the BRS working president said the government had failed to deliver on promises relating to Rythu Bharosa, pensions, crop bonus and financial assistance to tenant farmers and agricultural labourers. He said the Congress and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had deceived all sections of society through their election declarations.

Questioning the government’s irrigation plans for Parigi, he said that while the previous BRS government had proposed a gravity-based water supply scheme, Revanth Reddy opted for a Rs 4,400-crore lift irrigation project for commissions.

Targeting the Chief Minister over the Mahalakshmi scheme, Rama Rao said Revanth Reddy promised to make one crore women crorepatis, but could not even provide eligible women with monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 for the last 30 months. “I will quit politics if Revanth Reddy deposits the due amount of Rs 1.5 lakh into the bank accounts of every eligible woman under the promised Mahalakshmi scheme,” he declared.

Calling upon party workers to intensify organisational activities, he urged them to strengthen the membership drive and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He warned that the BRS would pursue legal action against officials who allegedly targeted party workers through false cases and assured cadres that their contributions and future role in the party would receive due recognition when the BRS returned to power.
