Hyderabad: Industries Minister KT Rama Rao once again made a fervent appeal to the Centre to support the State’s industrialisation with the promised special incentives.
“If you continue to ignore Telangana, if you continue to overlook us just because of our ideological and political difference, it would be a great tragedy, in terms of promoting industrialiastion in the country, in terms of creating employment, in terms of your own ‘Make in India’ campaign, in terms of your own self-reliant Atmanirbhar Bharat,” Rama Rao said.
Special incentives for employment creation were promised to Telangana in The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. However, they remained on paper. Though the support from the Centre has been long-awaited, Telangana continued to grow due to its proactive industrial policy, he said speaking at the MoU signing ceremony of Drillmec SpA, a global leader in design, manufacturing and supply of rigs for onshore and offshore applications, announcing to invest $ 200 million (about Rs 1,500 crore) in the State.
“Though a landlocked State and not a captive customer of Drillmec, the company choosing Telangana for its unit is a telling comment on the able governance being rendered in Telangana by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao-led Government,” he said.
“In the last seven-and-half years, not only we have been able to come up with some pathbreaking policies like the TS-iPASS, which continues to set new benchmarks and raise the bar for other States in the country. It continues to ensure that Telangana remains in the top of Ease of Doing Business rankings given by the Government of India and World Bank. Hyderabad and Telangana traditionally did not have large pure play or large manufacturing companies. But in the last seven years, we have been able to attract many manufacturing companies to the State,” he said.
“Telangana has made a name for itself as one of the most pro-active and industry-friendly States in the country. Unfortunately, we have not received the support a State like Telangana ought to get from the Government of India, which is set to present its eighth Budget after the formation of Telangana. Inspite of our numerous pleas and requests, we continue to wait for the delivery of promises to Telangana, and also to Andhra Pradesh,” said Rama Rao.
Telangana has launched the India’s largest textile park called the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park and is also set to launch the Hyderabad Pharma City, which will be world’s largest pharma cluster. These two large manufacturing destinations will create large scale employment. “We have sought support from the Government of India for these. Unfortunately, we have did not get much response or encouragement. Likewise, we have also sought creation of six industrial corridors. Even that has not materialised. The Prime Minister keeps espousing the ‘Saabka Saath, Saabka Vikas’ mantra and says Team India but a progressive State like Telangana, which is the fourth largest contributor to the Indian economy, does not get any support,” he said renewing his appeal to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister to keep promises made to the people of this country, to the people of Telangana as well as Andhra Pradesh.
“Telangana will continue to raise its voice for justice and demand what is rightfully ours,” he said.
