Hyderabad: BRS Working President KT Rama Rao on Wednesday served a legal notice on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, demanding an unconditional public apology within 48 hours over allegations linking him to Globarena Technologies and the 2019 Intermediate examination controversy. He warned that failure to apologise would invite civil, criminal and defamation proceedings.

The move came after Revanth Reddy, while addressing a Congress protest in Kodangal against the detention of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi in New Delhi, alleged that irregularities in the 2019 Intermediate examination results had driven 27 students to suicide. The Chief Minister claimed that the contract was awarded to Globarena, which he described as a proxy company linked to Rama Rao despite allegedly lacking the required qualifications and experience.

The notice, issued through PV Janani & Associates, described the Chief Minister’s remarks as “false, malicious and defamatory”. It sought the immediate withdrawal of the statements and an assurance that such allegations would not be repeated.

According to the notice, Revanth Reddy made the allegations during a public interaction on examination irregularities and later repeated them on social media and other public platforms without producing any evidence. It said the statements were widely circulated by television channels, newspapers and digital platforms, causing serious damage to Rama Rao’s reputation.

The notice denied any connection between Rama Rao and Globarena Technologies. It stated that there was no judicial finding, investigation report, official record or legally admissible evidence to show that Rama Rao owned, controlled or had any financial interest in the company.

It also rejected several allegations attributed to the Chief Minister, including claims that Globarena was Rama Rao’s benami company, that he helped the firm secure examination-related contracts, issued it an experience certificate, influenced CBSE contracts or failed to act against the company despite court directions. The notice termed all the allegations baseless and defamatory.

The notice said Rama Rao had served as a legislator and former Minister for Industries, IT, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, and had earned his reputation through years of public service. It alleged that the Chief Minister’s statements amounted to an attack on his integrity and credibility.

It further argued that a Chief Minister, as a constitutional authority, was expected to make responsible statements backed by facts. It said making allegations of corruption, abuse of office and criminal misconduct without proof was contrary to the standards expected from the office.

Calling the remarks defamatory beyond the limits of political criticism, the notice warned that Rama Rao would initiate civil and criminal proceedings, including seeking damages and other legal remedies, if Revanth Reddy failed to apologise and withdraw the statements within 48 hours.
