Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao came down heavily on the Congress for turning its back on farmers of the State, and charged the BJP with cheating the people of the country. He called upon educated youth to join politics and teach both parties a lesson to bring them to senses.

Welcoming Karimnagar doctor couple Dr Ontela Rohit Reddy and senior gynaecologist Dr Gogula Gauthami Reddy into the party fold at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, Rama Rao said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy promised to bring back old days and has only brought tears to farmers. He said Rahul Gandhi who made tall promises under Farmers Declaration, had remained silent to the plight of farmers in the State.

He cited the recent police assault on farmers demanding urea in Suryapet, where a tribal youth was subjected to third-degree torture, as evidence of the government’s shameless conduct. “Is this the Mohabbat ka Dukaan that Rahul Gandhi promised?” he asked. He vowed to take up the issue with the State SC, ST and Human Rights Commissions.

The BRS working president felt that the BJP-led Centre was no different. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had looted Rs 15 lakh crore from the people in eight years through GST slabs and was now reducing them ahead of the Bihar polls as if he was doing a favour. “This is nothing but electoral fraud. Return the entire Rs 15 lakh crore looted from people, to prove your sincerity,” he demanded. He reminded about the BJP government’s the unkept promises of recovery of black money, doubling farmers’ income, housing for all, and bullet trains.

He ridiculed the BJP for increasing LPG cylinder prices from Rs 350 to Rs 1,200 and petrol from Rs 65 to over Rs 110, and yet seeking votes in the name of religion. “Even Lord Rama understood the BJP’s anti-people governance and punished it in Ayodhya,” he remarked.

Rama Rao targeted Revanth Reddy for acting as a covert Chief Minister for Narendra Modi and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, and deliberately delaying Medigadda repairs. He contrasted the Congress’s silence on Karnataka spending Rs 70,000 crore to raise the Almatti Dam height by just five feet, while continuing its false propaganda of Rs 1 lakh crore corruption in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme under the BRS regime. He reminded that the Kaleshwaram project cost was constructed with Rs 93,000 crore.

Acknowledging BRS’s electoral failure, he said the party leaders could not explain the good work done by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. “Neither our leader KCR nor the people failed us. But we failed ourselves as leaders,” he added, asserting that the people were ready to bring back Chandrashekhar Rao whenever elections were held in the State.

Rama Rao called upon educated youth to join politics and safeguard Telangana’s identity and self-respect. “When KCR was the Chief Minister, there was adequate water, power, and urea. With Congress in power, everything is scarce. Telangana needs KCR again,” he declared.
