Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has assured full support to Vikarabad farmers protesting against the Congress government’s changes in the Regional Ring Road (RRR) alignment, which they say threatens their lands and livelihoods. He warned the government against any attempt to forcibly acquire lands, saying such moves would face strong opposition from the BRS.
A delegation of farmers met Rama Rao at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, voicing concern that the government was acquiring land arbitrarily without transparency. They demanded clarity on the extent of land being taken and insisted that acquisition follow the norms of the Land Acquisition Act.
In response, the former Minister accused the Congress of manipulating alignments to safeguard its own leaders’ lands while displacing poor farmers. Citing earlier controversies involving Congress leaders over the Outer Ring Road, he said thousands of farmers were being troubled for the ruling party’s selfish agendas.
Promising legal and political backing, Rama Rao said the RRR should be planned through government land wherever possible to minimise damage to private holdings. “We will stand by every farmer who loses land and, if needed, fight a legal battle on their behalf,” he asserted.
Stating that the issue was beyond political affiliations, he urged all political parties to unite in protecting the interests of affected villagers. He added that he would also raise the matter with the Assembly Speaker and local legislators. “The Congress government cannot play with the lives of farmers,” he said.
