Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Friday blamed the Congress government for the drought-like conditions in Telangana. He said the government’s failure to operate major irrigation projects like the Palamuru-Rangareddy and Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Schemes, despite substantial inflows into Krishna and Godavari Rivers, had left farmers struggling to save their crops.
“This is not a drought brought by time, but one brought by the Congress,” he posted on X. He accused the government of failing to utilise available water resources to protect agriculture.
Rama Rao pointed out that Krishna River received 250 TMCft of floodwater this year, while Godavari River recorded 750 TMCft of inflows. He said despite the availability of water, the pumps at both projects were not operated, and farmers were being forced to purchase water transported in tankers to save their drying crops.
