Hyderabad: Amid rising concerns, BRS working president KT Rama Rao accused the Congress government of betraying gig workers, private sector drivers and others in unorganised sector by scrapping the Rs 5 lakh accident insurance scheme. He demanded the immediate revival of the scheme and clearance of pending claims.
“If the government fails, we will launch a large-scale agitation on behalf of drivers and bring this inhuman government to its knees,” he warned. Contrasting the Congress rule with former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s regime, he said the BRS government offered insurance for farmers, weavers, and drivers.
Rama Rao said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy who promised the Moon to unorganised sector workers before the elections, had withdrawn the scheme with effect from October 2024 and left families of accident victims without support. “The Congress, which boasts of its humanitarian approach, has in reality abandoned poor drivers’ families in distress,”he said.
