KTR calls detention of youth activists a ‘new level of Emergency’
BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday criticised the arrest and subsequent judicial custody of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka for allegedly attempting to enter Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Calling the trespassing charges unjustified, he said imprisoning young activists for protesting was detrimental to democratic values and likened the action to a "new level of Emergency".
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Raoon Wednesday condemned the arrest and subsequent five-day judicial custody of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka for attempting to enter Jantar Mantar in Delhi. He termed the trespassing cases slapped against the CJP leaders as absolutely uncalled for and said sending them to five days’ judicial custody for waving the Indian flag at Jantar Mantar amounted to a new level of Emergency.
Rama Rao’s remarks came in response to a statement by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who questioned the charges against the two activists and asked what crime they had committed.
“If there is one group of people really fighting for this country’s future, it is the youth, particularly the Gen Z of this nation. To imprison them because they are trying to clean up the system reeks of insecurity,” he said.
He urged people not to forget that India attained its freedom through such protests and movements.
“Dissent is the cornerstone of any democracy,” he added.
In response, Abhijeet Dipke thanked Rama Rao for speaking out against the alleged illegal arrest of Das and Ranka, and received a prompt response from the BRS working president who declared, “We are all in this together, brother. Let’s fight for a better India. Jai Hind.”
