Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao charged the Congress government with deliberate neglect of the Kaleshwaram project, while downplaying urgent safety concerns at other major irrigation projects.

He pointed out that danger warnings have recently been issued for the Jurala project, the Manjeera barrage and the Singur dam, yet the government appears unfazed.

“Both the Congress and the BJP leaders indulge in mudslinging against the Kaleshwaram project, but downplay the repairs to other projects,” he said.

The BRS working president called out the hypocrisy of BJP and the Congress, stating that both the parties were justifying major repairs for other projects, but vilifying the Kaleshwaram project by highlighting only two damaged pillars of the Medigadda barrage.

He stated that though repairs are routine for all projects, it was wrong on part of these parties to portray the Kaleshwaram project in poor light.

“How can the government ensure safety of Jurala project, Manjeera barrage or Singur dam without taking up repairs even after National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) sounded alarm bells? Will they ignore them as well?” he asked, refering to the government’s inaction in repairing the damaged pillars of Medigadda barrage.

He asserted that all irrigation and drinking water projects must be repaired on a war footing and safeguarded in the interest of four crore people of Telangana.
