Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao challenged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to order a judicial probe into the assets accumulated by their respective families since the birth of BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao and the Chief Minister. He said he was ready to face any punishment if any wrongdoing was proved.

He said both sides should place details of their assets before a sitting Supreme Court or High Court judge for a comprehensive inquiry. He also asked Revanth Reddy to explain how his brothers had allegedly amassed Rs 1,000 crore, challenging the Chief Minister to write to the Supreme Court seeking such an inquiry.

Addressing Congress and BJP leaders from Armoor constituency who joined the BRS at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, Rama Rao strongly countered the Chief Minister’s remarks during his recent visit to Sircilla.

He also took a dig at Revanth Reddy’s remarks about his hotel business, saying he had started a hotel in 2006 with money earned during his six-year stint in the US. The business had since grown to three hotels, he said, adding that he could have expanded it to 10 hotels had he not entered politics.

Rama Rao pointed out that details of his business and assets had already been disclosed in his election affidavits and said the Chief Minister had found nothing illegal. “Revanth Reddy has given free publicity to my hotels,” Rama Rao said, thanking the Chief Minister for drawing attention to his business.

He also questioned the outcome of inquiries into alleged irregularities in Kaleshwaram, power purchases, Formula E and other issues. He accused Revanth Reddy of using allegations against the K Chandrashekhar Rao family to divert attention from governance issues and unfulfilled promises.

Rama Rao criticised the Chief Minister’s security arrangements during the Sircilla visit, saying the heavy police presence overshadowed public participation and made the town resemble an “invasion”.

Turning to the Congress government’s performance, Rama Rao said he would continue to question Revanth Reddy over his electoral promises. “We will continue to poke you at every instance and remind you about your electoral promises until you deliver them,” he said.

He asked what had happened to the SC, ST, youth, farmers and BC declarations, the 420 promises and the six guarantees announced by the Congress.

He said farmers across Telangana were struggling with inadequate power supply, non-payment of Rythu Bandhu and a shortage of urea. Several welfare and farmer-oriented programmes had been discontinued or weakened after the change of government, he added.

The former Minister questioned Revanth Reddy over his alleged failure to address the problems of weavers and handloom workers during his Sircilla visit. He said around 35 weavers had died by suicide since the Congress came to power in 2023 and alleged that the government had failed to announce compensation or address issues concerning Bathukamma saree and school uniform orders.

Rama Rao also targeted the BJP at the Centre, saying it too had failed to deliver on several promises, including doubling farmers’ income, bullet trains, housing and the $5 trillion economy.

“The least said about the BJP in Telangana the better. The party failed utterly to support the State and deliver its promises to its people,” he remarked.

With the next Assembly election about a year away, he said people were already recalling the previous BRS government.
