Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday challenged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for an open debate in the Assembly on the allegations surrounding the Formula-E race. Charging the Congress government with spreading baseless propaganda, he said a detailed discussion in the legislature would reveal the facts to the public.

“The Congress government has been making false accusations against the previous BRS government, particularly me, regarding the Formula-E race. Reports suggest that this issue was discussed for over an hour during a recent Cabinet meeting. Leaks from the Chief Minister’s office to the media, hinted that cases are being planned, with the Governor’s approval,” he stated in an open letter to the Chief Minister.

Rama Rao reiterated that the Formula-E race was held in 2023 with the noble intention of benefiting Telangana and Hyderabad city.

“The Formula-E race held in 2023 boosted Telangana’s economy by Rs.700 crore, as confirmed by Nielsen’s Report. Despite its success, the Congress government unilaterally cancelled the 2024 event and has since been spreading misinformation through the media, creating unnecessary doubts among the public,” he added.

He reiterated that the agreement and payments for the race were transparent and accused the Congress government of engaging in political propaganda to tarnish the reputation of the BRS as well as him personally.

“Rather than debating this behind closed doors, let us discuss it openly in the Assembly for the people to know the truth,” he demanded.

The BRS working president demanded that the State government initiate a discussion on the issue in the Assembly to present all facts in detail to the people of the State. Stating that the government can schedule the debate as per its convenience, he asserted that there were no irregularities or corruption in the Formula-E race issue which was only meant to bring goodwill to the State.

Accordingly, the BRS MLAs led by senior MLA T Harish Rao also submitted a representation to Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar on Wednesday, urging a debate in the Assembly on the allegations surrounding the Formula-E race.
