Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Sunday charged the Congress and BJP with a conspiracy to privatise Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), betraying the people of Telangana. He said the warnings issued by BRS are now proving true, as privatisation efforts are unfolding in a phased manner.
The former Minister pointed out that after privatising two coal blocks, the latest move by the government to privatise high-level jobs is yet another sign of the looming threat. He slammed the Central and State governments for weakening a century-old public sector company that has been crucial in meeting the country’s electricity demands.
“Instead of strengthening Singareni, they are systematically dismantling it. This is nothing short of a death sentence for workers’ rights,” he said.
Rama Rao asked whether privatisation of SCCL is a return gift by both the Centre and the State governments for its profitability and role in coal supply for power generation. He vowed that BRS would launch mass protests to protect the company. He announced that under BRS leadership, the Singareni workers would fight unitedly, against both governments.
