KTR condemns BRS leaders’ detention, demands Jurala water release for farmers

BRS working president KT Rama Rao condemned the detention of party leaders protesting for irrigation water from the Jurala project. He demanded their release and alleged that water was being withheld despite availability, leaving standing crops under stress in the ayacut.

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao condemned the arrests and house detention of party leaders in erstwhile Mahbubnagar district for demanding release of water from the Jurala project to save standing crops. He demanded immediate release of the detained BRS leaders and also water for Jurala ayacut farmers, warning of an escalation of farmers’ anger against the Congress government.

Rama Rao said former Ministers S Niranjan Reddy, C Laxma Reddy and V Srinivas Goud, former MLAs and other BRS leaders were being detained to suppress their protest, exposing the Congress government’s anarchy. “Instead of addressing the farmers’ woes, the Revanth Reddy government is attacking the BRS leaders to cover up its inefficiency,” he said.

The BRS working president said 9 TMCft of water was available in Jurala project, but the government was refusing to release it, leaving standing crops to wither. He also stated that the police had erected barricades around the project and booked cases against farmers who tried to open the gates to safeguard their crops.

“Even though just two TMCft of water would suffice drinking needs, pushing the ayacut farmers into a crisis by refusing to release water from the Jurala project which holds nine TMCft, is an unforgivable sin,” he said.
