Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao strongly denounced Congress MLA Danam Nagendar’s derogatory remarks against MP Kangana Ranaut, stressing that no political goal should justify disrespecting women. He expressed dismay at the offensive language used.
“While I may not agree with her views or her party’s ideology, the level of discourse should never sink to such lows. Respect towards women is non-negotiable,” he said while responding to Nagender’s derogatory remarks against Kangana Ranaut degrading her profession after she criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
No political goal should blur the line of respect towards women. The vile language used by Congress MLA Danam Nagendar against MP Kangana Ranaut is unacceptable. I may not agree with her opinions or her party’s ideology, but the level of discourse should never sink to such lows…
Rama Rao found fault with the silence of Congress leaders, questioning whether their lack of response indicated approval of such behaviour.
He pointed out the BRS’s stance on similar incidents, recalling how BRS president and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was quick to condemn Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s remarks about Sonia Gandhi, even before Congress leaders responded.
The BRS working president emphasised that any heinous act, whether violence or degrading remark, should be condemned with equal seriousness. He urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to set higher standards for his party, besides instilling values of decency and respect towards women among his party leaders.
“Political differences shouldn’t determine respect for women. This is about basic human decency,” he remarked, calling on all political leaders to maintain ethical standards in public discourse.
