Mahabubnagar: Strongly supporting Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s appeal for drafting a new Constitution, Industries Minister KT Rama Rao said the Opposition parties were trying to politicise the issue with ulterior motives. The Chief Minister had only raised his objections over the Centre’s discrimination towards Telangana in the union budget, besides injustice to Dalits and farmers, he said.
“Congress and BJP leaders here do not have the will to question Centre’s discrimination towards Telangana but they are making a hue and cry over the Chief Minister’s appeal to draft a new Constitution, with political motives,” said Rama Rao.
The Minister inaugurated a new Government School Building at Timmajipeta, Nagarkurnool here on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister reminded that in 2001 former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had constituted a committee seeking suggestions for amendments in the Constitution. RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat had also demanded for a new Constitution, he said, adding “Can this be considered as humiliation to Dr Ambedkar?”
In the past, the Congress and BJP Governments at the Centre had amended the Constitution for 105 times. Does that mean they are against Dr BR Ambedkar or his ideology, asked KT Rama Rao.
The Minister further said, “In fact, Dr Ambedkar himself had stated that if the Governments deviate from the provisions of Constitution and didn’t implement accordingly, he himself would burn it.”
The Chief Minister promotes Dr BR Ambedkar’s principles of teach, organise and agitate as well as followed them to achieve Telangana, he said. “Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is a true follower of Dr Ambedkar. If the NDA government is committed towards welfare and development of Dalits, then Dalit Bandhu should be implemented across the nation,” demanded KT Rama Rao.
To go as box report
Industries Minister KT Rama Rao wished that Saint Sri Ramanujacharya, whose statue would be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Muchintal on Saturday, would guide the Prime Minister to treat Telangana ‘equally’ on par with Gujarat.
“The Prime Minister is arriving here to dedicate Sri Ramanujacharya’s Statue of Equality. I pray that he appears in the dreams of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guides him about equality to all States. Let Telangana be treated like Gujarat,” said Rama Rao.
The Minister said in the last seven years the Central Government had not sanctioned eight IIMs, over 100 Navodaya Schools, several medical colleges and many other educational institutions to other States but not a single institute was sanctioned to Telangana, he said.
Telangana Government has been appealing for an industrial corridor on the Hyderabad-Bengaluru Highway but there is no response from the Centre.
Apart from sending a Ministers’ delegation, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had personally urged the Central Government to accord national status to Palammuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and railway lines to Telangana but there is no reply. Interestingly, Upper Bhadra project in the neighbouring Karnataka was given national status, he pointed.
“I wish Sri Ramanuja appears in the Prime Minister’s dreams and guides him to accord national status to Palammuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme and treat Telangana equally,” said Rama Rao.
