Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday criticised the Congress government, stating that it had betrayed every section of society in Telangana within 22 months of coming to power. The Revanth Reddy government had failed to deliver a single promise and had no moral right to seek votes again, he said.

“The Congress rule is a fraud, and the people have understood this deception. From farmers to women, auto drivers, students and the unemployed, every section has been deceived. How will the Congress face them and seek votes?” he asked while speaking to the national media here on Tuesday.

Pointing at the government’s recent bus fare hike, Rama Rao ridiculed Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy‘s “innovative thinking” as nothing but giving free rides to wives, while doubling fares for husbands and increasing charges for students’ bus passes. “This government is offsetting the Mahalakshmi scheme burden by looting passengers by hiking the ticket fare,” he said, also criticising the 50 per cent increase in ticket fares during festive seasons.

He also accused the Chief Minister of paving the way for RTC privatisation under the guise of introducing EV buses. “If the corporation can buy diesel buses and operate them, why not electric ones? This is nothing but a plan to hand over the RTC to private operators,” he said, calling it an “anti-people and pro-contractor” move.

The BRS working president recalled how Hyderabad voters did not believe in false promises of the Congress and gave all seats to the BRS in the last Assembly elections. Proving their faith in the BRS right, he said the Congress government did not build a single new road or bridge in 22 months, nor were the existing ones maintained.

“The Congress government has failed even in basic urban governance. Hyderabad is suffering due to Revanth Reddy’s negligence,” he said.

Referring to the Jubilee Hills by-election, Rama Rao expressed confidence that people would return to the BRS. “The mood across Telangana is clear. People want KCR back,” he asserted.

On the Muslim burial ground controversy in Jubilee Hills, he reminded that the then BRS government had already allocated 125 acres each for Muslim and Christian cemeteries in 2022, issuing an official GO. He ridiculed the Congress for now claiming credit for merely offering 2,500 square yards of disputed land, where even the army intervened claiming ownership.

The former Minister warned that the growing anger among middle-class families over rising costs and the Congress’s unkept promises would reflect strongly in the upcoming local body elections. “People are ready to teach the Congress a lesson,” he said.
