Hyderabad: As Rythu Bandhu reached a historic milestone of depositing Rs 50,000 crore into the bank accounts of farmers, TRS working president KT Rama Rao on Monday challenged the Opposition parties to point out any other State which brought revolutionary changes in the agriculture sector like Telangana. He also dared them to specify any other State which spent more than Telangana for farm loan waiver scheme.
“I challenge all the Opposition parties who were criticising the State government and its policies, to stop their loose remarks and instead come up with facts and figures. We have released white paper on agriculture, unlike the Centre which brought the anti-farmer farm laws,” he said, adding that the TRS government spent Rs 2.71 lakh core for agriculture and allied sectors since the State formation. He stated that TRS has no objection to political tourists visiting the State as it might help boost real tourism.
Speaking to the mediapersons at Telangana Bhavan on the occasion of completing the Rs 50,000 crore mark in Rythu Bandhu deposits, Rama Rao said due to the concrete steps taken by the State government, the Rythu Bandhu scheme brought a visible change in the agriculture sector across the State. “Depositing Rs 50,000 crore under a Direct Benefit Transfer scheme is no mean feat. But the Telangana government achieved this historic feat which will remain etched in the history of India with golden letters. This indicates the determination of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and his commitment towards farmers,” he said.
The Minister said even the Opposition leaders who own farm lands were benefiting from the scheme. He pointed out that schemes like Rythu Bandhu were being emulated by other States ruled by the Opposition parties.
The TRS working president thanked the Chief Minister on behalf of 65 lakh farmers and their families as well as TRS party activists for implementing the Rythu Bandhu scheme. He stated that the State government was implementing schemes like Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, lift irrigation schemes and also free uninterrupted power supply among other initiatives which fuelled the unprecedented growth of the agriculture sector in the State. He reminded about the woes of farmers in Telangana region of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
“Today, Telangana has not only become a fertile land of one crore acres, but also a grainery of over three crore tonnes of paddy which is beyond storage capacity of the Food Corporation of India (FCI). The State is at the doorstep of achieving five revolutions – Green (agriculture), Pink (meat), White (dairy), Blue (fish) and Plant (Haritha Haaram), due to the measures of the State government,” Rama Rao said. While the State government waived off farm loans of two lakh farmers, the remaining farmers too will get the scheme benefits soon.
On the occasion, Rama Rao thanked people, especially farmers for participating in the Rythu Bandhu celebrations, in adherence to Covid-19 guidelines. He reminded that due to prevailing Covid-19 restrictions, the celebrations have been extended till January 15 to mark Sankranti festival.
